Toronto real estate. Toronto Hydro to give 100,000 customers rebates

According to reports, about 100,000 Toronto Hydro customers will be getting a rebate on their summer electricity bill.The company's summer challenge program promised a 10 per cent rebate for customers that reduced electricity consumption by at least that same 10 per cent figure.

Toronto Hydro says the credits will appear on customers' bills over the next few months equaling a total pay-out of $2.5 million.

The program was so successful, Toronto hydro President and CEO David O'Brien says many customers were well below the 10 per cent target and the average was actually an 18 per cent reduction.

Collectively consumers reduced their electricity consumption by 58 million kilowatt hours.  That's the equivalent of taking 5,400 homes off the grid for a year.
